UN launches global economic report

Addis Ababa, 24 January 2006 - The UN is to launch its World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2006 on 24 January at 12 noon New York time [8 pm Addis time].

It provides the UN’s short-term economic outlook for the world economy, as well as for major regions. It also summarizes the views of the United Nations Secretariat on key current macroeconomic, trade, international finance and development issues, as well as the policy implications.

One of the purposes of the publication is to serve as a point of reference for deliberations on economic, social and other related issues taking place in various United Nations entities during the year.

The report is jointly produced by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the five UN regional commissions.
