| African governments, urged to scale up efforts for the implementation of Public-private-partnership projects . Addis Ababa, 21 August 2008 (ECA): The African regional workshop on public-private partnership (PPP) which was held last month in Johannesburg at the joint initiative of ECA, MINTEK (a South African based mineral research organization) and the South African Department of Treasury adopted a set of recommendations aiming at promoting capacity building for the strategic management of PPP programmes. Discussions focused particularly on infrastructure development and the NEPAD Spatial Development Programme. The workshop was attended by over 50 participants representing African ministries responsible for infrastructure development and finance as well as representatives of regional institutions. Its overall objective was to provide a platform to establish PPP alliances and networks at the continental level and to forge cooperation between the private sector, academic institutions and other stakeholders. Participants urged African governments, in the outcome statement, to sustain efforts in building their capacity to manage PPP process, to identify sponsors to participate in the projects and implement such projects despite their lack of prior experience.
