| Governance experts to examine issues related to the United States of Africa Addis Ababa, 31 April 2009 (ECA) - A high level panel of governance experts will on May 7 in Addis Ababa examine issues and challenges related to the idea of a United States of Africa at the African Governance Roundtable, according to a statement from the Governance and Public Administration Division (GPAD) of the Economic Commission for Africa. The Roundtable will offer an opportunity for open discussions on some of the critical issues facing Africa on the road to economic and political integration and also examine the decision by African leaders at the last African Union Summit to change the AU Commission into an AU Authority, the statement said. GPAD says it hopes generate fresh ideas from a broad spectrum of stakeholders, from which new policy recommendations and suggestions can be made on the issue of economic and political integration. The Roundtable, which will be chaired by the Director of GPAD, Prof. Okey Onyejekwe, will feature six panelists: Professor Adebayo Olukoshi, former Executive Secretary of CODESRIA and a member of the high level panel on the Audit of the AU Commission; Professor Michael Chege, advisor on International Development Policy for the Kenyan Ministry of Planning; Dr. Eddy Maloka, former president of the African Association of Political Science (AAPS). Others are Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, director of the Institute of Democratic Governance in Ghana; Professor Adele Jinadu, former president of AAPS and leading African political theorist and Mr. Kenneth Mpyisi, director of Institute of Security Studies in Addis Ababa.
