:: Services

The mission of the ECA Library, as a central catalyst for organizational effectiveness, is to continuously enrich and add value to the Commission’s knowledge ecosystem, by providing reliable access to high quality knowledge resources and services to staff members and other stakeholders, wherever they may be.

In pursuit of this mission, and in support of SRO's, all Divisions and Sections of the Commission, we develop and continually improve:

Collections of High Quality Knowledge Resources
We have proactively assembled and classified one of the richest collections of electronic and print information and knowledge resources on economics and other dimensions of development studies, and placed them at your disposal.

Current Awareness Services
We frequently alert all staff of the arrival of new resources and services through the dissemination of ECA Library Alert and Journal Contents, and provide individualized notices based on subject interests.

Desktop Access to E-Journals, E-Books and Databanks
Through the ECA Library, you have hassle-free online access to research-quality, decision-relevant information and knowledge resources direct from each staff member’s desktop. These include over 5,000 e-books, over 15,000 full-text e-journals and over 12 databanks on a broad range of African development issues.

ECA Library Catalogue and Portal
You have access to the Library’s online catalogue which provides bibliographic information on the holdings of the Library; and the portal which represents a virtual window to global free as well as premium information sources and networks. To use the catalogue please go to http://ecalib.uneca.org - and for the portal go to http://www.uneca.org/library/

Extra-Mile Journal Article Delivery Service
We go the extra mile to purchase “must use” single journal articles from overseas, at extra cost, to satisfy requests for information needed for the design and implementation of ECA programme of work. When you have to use an article from a journal we do not hold, please contact our Customer Service or your liaison officers.

Service Liaison Programme
The Library has designated two liaison officers for every Division. Please see the names of yours below. Your library liaison officer is your “point man” or “point woman” in the Library, who will go the last mile to ensure that your requests are met. Take advantage of this programme fully.
