Training workshop on National Accounts and Supply and Uses Tables compilation using the ERETES software package

Addis Ababa, 15 November 2011 (ECA) - The African Centre for Statistics (ACS) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) is organizing a training workshop on National Accounts and Supply and Uses Tables compilation using the ERETES software package.

The purpose of this internal training workshop is to strengthen the technical capacity of the staff members of ACS in the use of ERETES for the compilation of National Accounts and Supply and Uses tables.  As a result, the African Centre for Statistics will be in better position to support the implementation of the 2008 System of National Accounts (SNA 2008) in Africa, which has been considered as the first pillar of the Strategy for the Harmonization of Statistics in Africa (SHaSA) by the Directors-General of National Statistical Office at the fifth Meeting of the Committee of the Directors-General of National Statistical Office which was held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in December 2010. This was a recognition of the fact that the success of regional and continental integration in Africa is contingent upon the production, analysis, and use of harmonized and high quality statistical information.

The training will take place at the Training Center of the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 21 to 25 November 2011. It will be conducted by Mr. Mukesh Dawoonauth, an ERETES expert from the Central Statistics Office of the Republic of Mauritius.
