DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the overall guidance of the Executive
Secretary and direct supervision of the Deputy Executive Secretary, the Chief of the
Central Africa Sub-Regional Development Centre (CA-SRDC) serves as principal adviser in
regional Cupertino and integration in the sub-region; initiates, designs and conducts
policy and action-oriented research; consults and maintains close contacts with
governments; facilities networking with regional economic communities, IGOs, NGOs, the
private sector and civil society in order to develop co-ordinated programmes for social
and economic development; forges partnership with UN agencies, international and bilateral
organisations in order to identify development needs, priority issues and problems. He/She
provides intellectual, technical and managerial leadership in the management of the Centre
and mobilisation of resources as well as representing the Executive Secretary in various
fora.
EDUCATION:
Advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in economics,
management or closely related development field from an internationally recognised
university.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Eighteen to twenty-two years of progressive
experience in the promotion of African economic development and planning and management of
programme implementation in an international organisation.
The incumbent should also have demonstrated leadership qualities, managerial and technical
capabilities; initiative, ability to plan and implement projects; train, co-ordinate and
evaluate the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationship with people in a multicultural environment.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Track record of success in the
implementation of economic integration programmes and multi sectoral assistance projects
in collaboration and/or partnership with intergovernmental organisations. Fluency in
English or French and a working knowledge of the other or Arabic is desirable. Ability to
communicate effectively is essential.
