DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general supervision of the Chief of the Northern Africa Sub-Regional Development Centre, the incumbent undertakes activities, particularly in the areas of private sector development and trade. In context of African countries, the incumbent will engage in the Division's work which includes conducting macroeconomic research and analysis, particularly on fiscal and monetary policies; designing econometric models; assisting with developing proposals for economic and social policies; and assisting with the analyses of trends and economic performance at the national and regional levels in Africa. Participates in team projects; prepares draft documents and other communications such as results of studies, reports, letters, proposals, and Website texts. Participates in the formulation of the SRDC’s work plan; assists with implementation of policy and programme initiatives; conducts training, participates on ECA missions to member States and in various fora; assists with the organization of conferences and other events; and assists with the administration and management of the SRDC.

EDUCATION:
Advanced University degree required, PhD preferred, in Economics or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Relevant professional experience required in the application of economic principles and concepts in the above-mentioned areas. Experience in the context of Africa highly desirable.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Understanding of economic theories and experience in applying economic principles to development and management issues. Ability to: use quantitative methods of economic research and analysis; draw policy implications, propose options, and make recommendations; assists with preparations for policy and programme advocacy to governments and other bodies. Proficiency in computer systems, including word processing and Internet, required; familiarity with data base management, spreadsheet applications, and statistical packages desirable. Proven abilities to: prepare written materials in a clear, concise and compelling manner; and communicate orally in an effective manner.
