Responsibilities |
| Multiple posts: acceptance of these posts requires that you will be willing to take up
your duties at one or more of the following duty stations: Addis Ababa, Lusaka, Yaounde.
Your order of preference will be recorded when you apply online. If you choose to apply in

supervision of an ECA Division Director, the incumbents will have responsibilities in the
context of economic and social development in Africa, including one of the following major
areas of focus: - Trade and Investment - Regional Integration - Monetary and Fiscal Policy
Development and Planning In the course of this work, the incumbent will be:
conceptualizing and undertaking rigorous macroeconomic studies on African development
through the application of quantitative and qualitative methods, including econometric
modeling; collecting, collating and analysing economic research data; recommending policy
proposals; initiating and leading teams for program implementation; advocating for ECA
policies and programs to a range of stakeholders; providing technical assistance to member
States; representing ECA and collaborating with a variety of bodies such as UN
organizations, sub-regional bodies, multilaterals, as well as to partner organizations
including those from governments outside Africa, the private sector, foundations, NGOs and
civil society; participating in inter-agency consultations, meetings, and conferences
related to African development. In general, the incumbent may participate in or lead team
projects; prepare documents and other communications such as results of studies, reports,
letters, proposals, Website texts and speeches; recommend direction and co-ordinate
elements of the Division's work plan; provide training within the division and to clients
in member States; identify and assist with recruiting consultants; and lead missions as a
senior expert. |

QUALIFICATIONS
|
Education |
| Advanced university degree, preferably a Doctorate, in economics or development
economics with an emphasis on macroeconomics or closely related area with an emphasis on
macroeconomics. Preferable if candidate has had post-graduate training in one of the
above-mentioned areas of emphasis. |

| Work Experience |
| More than 10 years of progressively responsible post-graduate experience required in
the principles and application of economic and social development, preferably in the
context of Africa; practical experience in program development and implementation in at
least one of the areas of focus (trade and finance, regional integration and/or monetary
and fiscal policy) that was gained through involvement in policy formulation, program
management, research, teaching or related work. Must also have proven technical leadership
and supervisory abilities. Substantial record of relevant publications, some of which have
been refereed, would be highly desirable. |

| Languages |
| Fluency in spoken and written English or French required; working knowledge of the
other highly desirable. |
|
| Other Desirable Skills |
Demonstrated in-depth technical knowledge and proven analytical skills in aspects of
economic and social development; good problem-solving skills; highly developed writing and
oral presentation skills; strong computer skills including the use of software relating to
macroeconomic research and analysis, proficiency with spreadsheet and database
applications as well as facility with word processing, presentation programs and the
Internet.
