What are the dates of the meeting?
The meeting will take place from 16-20 November 2009. The Ministerial session on 19-20 November will be preceded by the expert session on 16-18 November 2009.
How many persons can one country bring?
The size of the delegation is to be determined by national gender machineries. Each country will decide the size of its delegation. It is important that experts cut across the 12 Critical Areas of Concern and not just from the Ministries of Gender and Women’s Issues.
Is ECA funding?
Each country is expected to bear its own cost of travel to as well as subsistence in Banjul, the Gambia.
Who are participants of this meeting?
This meeting will be attended by Ministers, senior government officials, representatives of CSOs, the UN family, Intergovernmental Organizations, development partners and gender experts.
What will be discussed?
The 8th Africa regional conference on Women (Beijing +15) will review the draft regional report which is a synthesis of the responses to questionnaires administered to member States by ECA. The conference, 5 years before the second decade of the implementation of the Beijing platform for Action will look at how to accelerate the implementation of the platform.
Are countries making presentations?
Countries are not expected to make presentations, but to review the report and come up with recommendations on how to accelerate implementation of the Platform.
