In implementing its programme,
ECA seeks to collaborate and forge strategic partnerships with
organisations and firms which have an interest in the development
of Africa's capital markets. This collaboration and partnership
could cover any aspect of the programme: research, exchange of
ideas, technical assistance, etc. For example, for its workshop
to be held in Johannesburg in October 2003, ECA has entered into
a partnership with a private sector partner, Rand Merchant Bank,
one of the largest banks in Southern Africa. The bank is making
a substantial contribution to the running of the workshop, contributing
funds, materials and human capital.
Similarly,
ECA is collaborating with the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchanges
and JP Morgan to organise the sub-regional workshop for North
Africa which will be held on 30 March - 1 April, 2004. The Cairo
and Alexandria Stock Exchanges is unique in that it runs two separate
stock exchanges in both Cairo and Alexandria. The CASE is the
oldest and largest stock exchange in North Africa. It is also
the second oldest and second largest on the African continent.
The CASE is collaborating with ECA by contributing to the organizational
aspects of the workshop and by providing intellectual capital
in the form of speakers.
