"The Challenge to Africa of Globalisation and the Information Age"

ADF - A process, not a meeting

A great amount of energy has already been harnessed both within member States and with partners to work on Africa’s entry in to the information age. ADF '99 is a process to propel this activity to a higher orbit by:
Documentating the status of ICTs in the region at AISI+3
Recording progress made to date and lessons learned from 3 years of AISI implementation
Identifying areas of focus for implementation at the beginning of the new millenium
Establishing a dialogue with African government planners and decision makers to elaborate country specific action plans and work programmes for the year 2000
Appointment of the African Development Forum Technical Advisory Committee (ADF-TAC) to advice ECA on the preparations for the Forum
Convening ADF '99, Addis Ababa, 24-28 October 1999
Adoption of the Forum action plan and country work programmes for 2000
Resource mobilization for the 2000 action plan and country work programmes
Convening post-Forum Summit Dialogue of selected Heads of State
Dissemination of ADF '99 proceedings and position papers through the Journal of the African Development Forum, on the WorldWideWeb and on CD-ROM
Implementation of the Forum '99 action plan and country work programmes
