Congo was connected to the Internet on October 9, 1999. Congo's Internet service is run by an ISP called Congo-Net. It is a joint venture between Mediapost of South Africa (70%) and the Office National des Postes et Télécommunications (ONPT) of Congo (30%). In 2001, there were an estimated 2100 Internet accounts.
