Development of
e-mail and the internet in Guinea-Bissau.
SITEC,
a private company, has established a cybercafe called Dunia in March 1997. The cybercafe
is also used to provide Internet training courses. SITEC plans to become
an official Internet Service Provider (ISP) once it has obtained authorisation from the
Government.
The USAID
Leland Initiative end-user assessment and training took place in Guinea
Bissau from January 20 through February 4, 1998. A two-day training of trainers
(TOT) session was also conducted, sharing training techniques and content for Internet
instruction with eight Internet/computer trainers. However, installation of the Leland
gateway was halted due to the recent fighting and subsequent damage to the Guine
Telecom.
