The Academia Research Network (ARN) was launched by ECA with the support of the Ford Foundation in December 2003, during the first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva. The network was created to provide a platform and space for a selected group of leading African academics and researchers to enhance their role and reflect on the many intellectual challenges related to the information society.
The ARN functions under the framework of the African Information Society Initiative (AISI) for defining various research activities in implementing the WSIS Action Plan.
