GKP Africa regional preparatory meeting to GK III: “Knowledge and Access”
5 - 6 June 2007
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

In the view of providing a GKIII-preliminary regional forum, ECA- the African regional node for GKP- in collaboration with SDC and with the support of IDRC is organizing a GKP Africa preparatory meeting on " Knowledge and Access", which will provide an opportunity for GKP Africa members as well a other stakeholders committed to promote information and knowledge for development in the Continent. Participants will debate on issues such as: market opportunities, knowledge as a public good, language and culture, inclusive solutions for women and youth, innovative technologies, around 3 main themes: Emerging People, Emerging Markets, and Emerging Technologies.

GKP Africa Resource Mobilisation Training Workshop, 23 - 24 January 2007, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) are organising the GKP Africa Resource Mobilisation Training Workshop, which is scheduled to take place from 23 – 24 January 2007 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The objective of the training workshop is to substantively review GKP Africa members’ project proposals for seed funding in the framework of the GKP Africa Action Plan. The GKP Secretariat has kindly made available the expertise of Mr. Peter Lum, Programme Officer to deliver the training.

2005 PICTA/GKP Meeting, 7 - 8 Sep 2005, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The 2005 annual PICTA meeting will take place in Addis Ababa from 7 - 8 September under the theme "Networking Development in Africa". PICTA members and invited guests are expected to put extra effort into strengthening PICTA as an arena for collaboration among the key institutions involved with ICT and Knowledge for Development in Africa. To achieve this goal the annual meeting will be joined by GKP Africa members and held as a PICTA-GKP meeting.

The Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) Secretariat and the ECA collaborate in jointly organising regional ICT events in the framework of the AISI and the Partnership for ICTs in Africa (PICTA). One of such events is the "GKP Africa Day".

The second GKP Africa Day (GKP Africa Day - 2) will be held on 13th May 2003 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia during the third meeting of the Committee on Development Information (CODI-III) that will take place from 12 - 16 May 2003 on the theme "information and governance".  More on CODI >> http://www.uneca.org/codi

The GKP Africa Day -2 will focus, among other things, on ICT and governance experiences from African countries, strategies for promoting e-governance in Africa, progress on ICT policies, and information and knowledge developments.

Annual PICTA Meeting to take place in Tunis

The annual meeting of PICTA will take place from 16 to 17 October 2003 in Tunis, Tunisia in conjunction with the World Congress on "Engineering and Digital Divide" scheduled from 12 to 19 October 2003.

African Engineers Day, October 14

African Engineers Day: Contribution of African Engineers to the Information Society will take place on October 14, 2003 during the World Engineering Congress, Tunis, Tunisia. The ECA in collaboration with the World Federation of Engineering Organisations – Committee on Information and Communication, is organising this special event during the World Engineering Congress to discuss the roles that can be played by African engineers in addressing the challenges and opportunities to Africa of the information society, and their participation in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process.
