During the consultative meetings with various stakeholders from all sectors of the society government, private and the civil society efforts were made to further pin point the vital issues which a comprehensive NICI policy for the country should address. The NICI process and related documents were made available on the web at http://www.dosh.gm/gambia-ictpolicy Based on the input from consultations held with stakeholders, analysis of various development policy papers the following ten pillars were identified for further discussion and validation in the next phase:
Consequently, the government requested ECA to support the organization of policy drafting workshops in November 2004, after which the outcome will be discussed at a validation workshop. The pillars of the NICI were thoroughly discussed at stakeholders workshop held in Nov 2004 in Banjul. The Draft NICI policy was published and widely circulated by DOSCIT among all stakeholders for their further input to the draft. The Validation Workshop was held in Banjul on 13 April 2005 to validate the NICI Policy & Plans for The Gambia and to strategize the implementation aspects and finalize institutional structures required for the policy implementation, monitoring and evaluation. As per the workshop programme the participants were divided into five working groups. These were:
Various comments, recommendations and amendments were suggested by the five working groups. These recommendations were incorporated in the final version of the NICI Policy & Plans document and adopted by cabinet.
