NICI Policy Development Process

The National information and communication strategy of Lesotho was inspired by the introduction of full Internet access to the country. Lesotho has established a national Internet hub through a memorandum of understanding signed between the United States Agency for International Development’s Leland Initiative and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The hub now comprises a national backbone that provides services to Internet service provides and users both from private sector and public institutions. The Kingdom has also embarked on electronic government project that links public institutions to exchange information. The process has opened for a debate on development of a broad-based ICT–led social and economic development programmes in Lesotho. A National Information and Communication Development strategy has been elaborated based on the discussions.
