The formulation of Mauritanias NICI plan started in April 1999. The process was led and coordinated by the faculty of science and technology of the University of Nouakchott, the Ministry of Interior and Communication, Ministry of Interior and Communications with support from the Internet Initiative for Africa of UNDP as part of the national NICI team. The Government created "le Secrétariat dEtat aux Technologies de lInformation et de la Communication" (Secretariat of State for New Information Technologies) to elaborated the national policy and to promote ICT. Sectoral areas of focus identified by the Mauritania NICI plan are education (national network for learning and research,) health (national information and communication health systems,) public administration (government national information and communication network,) and private sector (trade information and exchange network of Mauritania.) As a result of the AISI process of developing National Information and Communication Infrastructure (NICI) policies and plans, Mauritania has established a Ministry responsible for the development and promotion of ICTs in the country according to Décret No. 100-2000 / PM. |
