Mozambiques NICI formulation process was launched in May 1997. On 30 May 2000 the Council of Ministers approved the policy document Draft Policy for Information and Communication Technologies. The process is coordinated by the Commissã o para a Polítoca de Informática (Commission for Information Policy.) Civil society organizations (CSO), private sector companies, academia, provinces and the public at large participated in the policy formulation process. The NICI vision aims to:
Mozambiques NICI plan places focus on the following sectors:
Mozambique held an International Symposium on its ICT Policy Implementation Strategy from 3 to 5 October 2001. A communiqué on the symposium outlined priority projects in infrastructure, education, health and establishment of an ICT incubation centre. A policy document was approved by the Council of Ministers in May 2000. The final version of the policy document is available at the Information Policy Commission's web site in Portuguese and English. The Commissã o para a Polítoca de Informática is the implementing agency. The Information and Communication Technology Policy and the corresponding implementation strategy are the currently available programmes and workplans. |
