Telecommunication Infrastructure
Cabo Verde Telecom is the sole supplier of telecommunications services in Cape Verde and it
reports to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The process of transforming the Public
Post and telecommunication Enterprise to form two limited-liability companies started in
1995. These companies were Cabo Verde Telecom and Correios de Cabo Verde. By 1999 Cabo
Verde Telecom was on its third stage of privatization. Accordingly, the shares were
divided into:
- Portugal Telecom (40%)
- National Social Prov. Institute
(27.9%)
- Other National Private Sector
(13.7%)
- State of Cape Verde (13.4%)
- Employees (5%)
The Directorate of
Communications within the Ministry of Infrastructure and Habitat is the body
responsible for the regulation of the telecommunications sector.
