InterConnect, July 1999
Telecel, the
major cellular operator in the country, and the Centre Informatique pour la Formation
et la Recherche, have shown interest in providing Internet services, however their
attempts failed because of the poor quality of the local telephone system in the
Democratic Republic of Congo. A number of international and UN organisations have resorted
to establishing their own satellites links, and the use of radio-modems for communications
purpose is very popular, especially for institutions within the country. The main two
providers of radio communication services are Motorola-Kinshasa and Mission
Aviation Fellowship (MAF).
