The Groupe de Travail Interdisciplinaire (GT2I) was established in 1994 following the initiatives taken by a number of lecturers and researchers at the Université Abdou Moumouni de Niamey. The main objective of GT2I is to promote information technology in the research and academic sector.

The African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) is the foundation for regional integration and cooperation among African nations in the application of hydrological and meteorological products for poverty alleviation and improving the socio-economic fabric of people's lives.  The Centre was conceived in April 1985 by the Economic Commission of Africa Conference of Ministers and co-sponsored by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) in 1993.  In July 1999, ACMAD launched a project entitled "Communication for Rural Communities using Radio and Internet (RANET)". The project is meant to strengthen the capabilities of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) of twelve African countries as a pilot effort to demonstrate the importance of dissemination of meteorological information, alerts and warnings to rural areas of Africa.

The Centre Régional AGRHYMET was created in 1974 as a specialised agency of the Comité permanent inter-Etats de lutte contre la sécheresse dans le Sahel (CILSS) regrouping nine West African countries: Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal. AGRHYMET has a major programme focusing on the collection and management of information on food security, desert control, and natural resources management.

The following are national institutions involved in the collection and dissemination of information in Niger:
