Full Internet connection in
Niger was established in May 1997 by the national telecom, Société Nigérienne des Télécommunications
(SONITEL), which is
currently the sole Internet Service Provider in the country with a 64 Kbps link via
France telecom et radio (FCR). A year late in May 1998, the link has been
upgraded to 192 Kbps. SONITEL is the Top Level Domain (TLD) administrator of
".ne".
