
The AISI Stand @ WSIS
The Stand was visited by scores
of delegates including the President of Ghana, the President of Mozambique, Vice-President
of Gambia, Ministers from Ethiopia, Morocco and Senegal, and Mrs. Kofi Annan. In addition,
several African stakeholders drawn from the civil society, academia, and media, and
partners including PICTA members used the stand as a meeting place and for showcasing

The European Commission and ACP
exhibited the new ACP-EC Partnership @ ICT4D Platform. The Partnership seeks to create a
more favourable context for sustainable development and poverty reduction, and to reverse

Building Knowledge Societies: UNESCO @ ICT4D Platform
UNESCO's vision for knowledge
societies is illustrated by the exhibition "Building Knowledge Societies", which
contains information about some 280 projects illustrating what knowledge societies can be.
The exhibition illustrates UNESCO's conviction that if heads of state and government agree
on measures not only to expand the reach of the internet but also to make sure that it
contributes to social development, ICT can bring a huge contribution to the lives of
millions of people in developing countries and on the fringes of the wealthy societies of

GKP Showcase Gallery Presentations @ ICT4D Platform
Various Panels were held at the
GKP Showcase Gallery section of the Pavilion at the ICT4D Platform. Among the Panels on
regional ICT4D Issues, the panel on Africa and the Middle East, moderated by Aida
Opoku-Mensah from ECA, focused on 21st century clubs and ThinkQuest Africa, APC Africa
Internet Rights Programme, and Status of the Telemedicine and its Application in Mali
(Presented in French). Speakers were Mr. Amr Hamdy from RITSEC, Alice Munyua from
Association for Progressive Communication (APC), and Dr. Bagayoko Cheick-Oumar from

GKP ICT4D Award Winners
The Global Knowledge Partnership
(GKP) announced the winners of its ICT4D awards, which took place on 11th December at the
GKP Pavillion, Geneva Palexpo. The Awards, representing a combined worth of nearly US$
60,000, are aimed at promoting specific, targeted applications of ICTs in four thematic
areas: gender, media, poverty reduction and youth. The awards presented by GKP and
its partners recognize outstanding efforts by women, men and organisations in different
parts of the world who have put ICT tools to improve the quality of life, said
