Training Workshop on the Participation of the Civil Society in the APRM Process

A training workshop on the participation of Civil Society Organizations (CSO) in the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) process will be held from 25 to 27 June 2007, Douala, Cameroon.

The training workshop will focus on the challenges and prospects for the Francophone APRM participating countries, by bringing together CSO representatives from countries that have already signed-up for the APRM and those that are still prospecting. More than 30 participants are expected to participate in the interactive training workshop, whose main objective is to facilitate dialogue among civil society representatives, gain a deeper understanding of their role in the APRM process and contribute effectively towards the implementation of APRM in their respective countries.

Further, participants are expected to learn about best practices and pitfalls to avoid from APRM pioneer countries (Algeria, Mauritius and Rwanda). It will also allow participants to apply strategic tools and methods for participating effectively and efficiently in the APRM process while affording them the opportunity to create networks among themselves for their future engagement in national governance systems.

ECA, as a Strategic Partner institution of the APRM, will host the training workshop in collaboration with the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Food Security, Trade and Sustainable Development (COASAD), and Partnership Africa Canada (PAC), based in Cameroon and Ethiopia respectively.
