| Enhancing the Role and Effective Participation of Parliamentarians in the APRM Process
12 - 14 November 2008, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Governance & Public Administration (GPAD) of ECA in collaboration with UNDP of Tanzania and the Pan African Parliament (PAP) of South Africa are organizing a three day training workshop on "Enhancing the Role and Effective Participation of Parliamentarians in the APRM Process", from 12 to 14 November 2008, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The training workshop attempts to enhance the capacity of parliamentarians in APRM participating countries to effectively participate in the implementation of the APRM both at the national and continental levels.
The workshop is targeting parliamentarians from the following English speaking African countries that have acceded to the APRM process: Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Representatives of Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Sub-regional Offices of ECA and APRM National Commission members in Tanzania are also invited to attend the sessions and make their valuable contributions.
The main objective of the training workshop is to provide a valuable learning opportunity for exchange of views, sharing country specific experiences and peer learning among Parliamentarians from both pioneer and newly acceded countries.
It is expected that this training workshop would finally come out with a set of proposals to increase the involvement of MPs in the APRM implementation from the country national self-assessment to the implementation of the National Programme of Action.
