ECA holds Coordination Meeting with the Commissioner for Economic Affairs of the AU

January 15, 2007

Trade, Finance and Economic Development Division of ECA held a formal working meeting with the Office of the Commissioner of Economic Affairs of the African Union Commission on Friday 12 January 2006. The meeting was a follow-up on the meeting earlier last week between the Executive Secretary and the Commissioner for Economic Affairs. TFED's Director, Mr. Hakim Ben Hammouda, led the ECA team, which comprised of all the Chiefs of Sections from the Division. The Director of Economics Department led the AUC team. The two sides exchanged their programmed activities for 2007. In particular, they identified the common areas where there is need to harmonise activities in order to avoid duplication. They agreed that there is need to share responsibilities in the common areas. There was also agreement that TFED and the Office of the Commissioner for Economic Affairs will hold monthly meetings in order to update each other on achievements on on-going activities and also allow for early involvement in each other's work. As a result, the Chief of Macroeconomic Analysis Section in TFED and the Chief of Economic Policy and Research Division at the AUC will be the focal points for coordinating the collaboration.
