Institute of Water and Sanitation Development, Zimbabwe
The IWSD was born out of the Training Centre for Water and Sanitation (TCWS) a project of the UNDP-World Bank Programme hosted at the University of Zimbabwe. The TCWS was set up in 1989 with a strong emphasis on capacity building and promotion of low cost technologies for rural water supplies and sanitation as part of the International Training Network (ITN) for Water and Waste Management.
The objectives of the Institute are:
- To build capacity of sector personnel and institutions through training and education programmes,
- To act as information centre and endeavour to provide state of the art information on request,
- To provide technical and advisory support services to sector agencies and development institutions and
- To develop and implement a strong applied research programme to support decision-making and policy formulation in the sector.
