Beijing plus 20
9th African Regional Conference on Beijing+20 Review
In March 2015, at the fifty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW59), the world will gather to review the progress made in 20 years of implementing the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA). The platform had identified 12 critical areas of concern that needed to be addressed in order to guarantee the elimination of discrimination against women and girls and ensure their empowerment.
Africa is well prepared for this process. 51 African Member States have submitted their national reviews which show their accomplishments in the implementation of the BPfA. A regional report is being prepared by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), analysing the information provided by member states. This report will be presented, discussed and endorsed by the African Regional Conference on Beijing+20 Review, to be held in Addis Ababa, 17-19 November 2014. This report will then be submitted to the fifty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women as Africa’s input into the global Beijing+20 report.
Invitations for this event have been sent out. Please contact us with any questions or concerns. All inquiries should be directed to Mr. Berhanu Tesfaye (btesfaye[at]uneca[dot]org; +251 115 44 3760).

Beijing+20 National Reviews
To All UNECA Member States:
This is to kindly remind you that the Ninth Regional Conference on Women (Beijing+20) will take place from 17 to 19 November 2014 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Beijing+20 review has begun. A guidance note to support the preparation of country-level reviews has been sent to all 54 UNECA Member States.
The deadline for submitting your country’s national review is 30 June 2014. However, submitting your report prior to this date would be appreciated.
We emphatically urge those countries that have not yet started their reviews to do so immediately.
Your inputs are a critical part of the agenda for the Ninth Regional Conference on Women (Beijing+20), which will take place 17–19 November 2014 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
As you know, the purpose of the conference is to ensure that the Africa region is fully prepared to participate in next year’s global review of progress worldwide toward meeting the commitments to gender equality and women’s rights first pledged in Beijing in 1995.
Your country reviews will feed into an overall regional report on Africa’s achievements and challenges, to be submitted to the Committee on the Status of Women. The regional report will in turn feed into the 20th anniversary global report on the Beijing Platform for Action. The 20th anniversary report will be an essential resource for the post–2015 development agenda.
Kindly be sure to use the guidance note that has been sent to you when conducting your review. You should already have this in hand, but please contact us immediately if you need to have the guidance note resent, or you can download a copy from this website.
All reports from individual countries will be uploaded onto this website, so please visit this page regularly.
