In 2006, as a result of the re-alignment of ECA program activities with those of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and the new strategic program orientation of the African Union Commission (AUC) the ECA Conference of Ministers for Economic Planning and Development that took place in May 2006, suggested the change of the name of the Committee to be called as “Committee on Governance and Popular Participation” (CGPP).
