Cluster Policy Broadcast Partnerships Funding/ Capacity Building
Actions SACOD and MISA to spearhead an advocacy programme to have the AU adopt the African Charter on Broadcasting (ACB). They will collaborate with existing groups to develop materials for advocacy purposes. ECA will facilitate dialogue this issue with the relevant officials within the AU. Time frame: Detailed action plan out by end of June. ECA to coordinate with OneWorld the setting up of a listserv to enable follow-up to the workshop and to eventually broaden participation in the Broadcasting for Development agenda. Time frame: Proposal by end of June  Mr. Mongameli Jabavu of Channel Africa to spearhead survey, coordinating with the Catia project, of technology and platforms  used by broadcasters in Africa. Time frame: Concept paper by end of June.
  ECA to approach UNESCO and define support for the ACB.                                   Time frame: Dialogue established by beginning of August. ECA to coordinate and feed in information to the OneWorld database on broadcast development practitionars( e.g. in video, etc) from the workshop participants, training and funding opps, etc.Time frame: Concept developed by end of June APBF to lead on organizing a workshop for African broadcasters/ journalists/ editors on development issues and broadcasting.                                                                           Time frame:  Concept developed by end of August
  The 'Policy Discussion Group' led by Zane Ibrahim of Bush Radio, Tracey Naughton of MISA Njoroge Karanja of VoA to develop a policy statement on these principles. Time frame: end of June 2003.   ECA to draw up plans for annual thematic/technical training for media.                                                                                       Time frame: Concept developed by end of August.
