UNECA Launches the National Advisory Panel of the African Gender and Development Index in Cape Verde
22 April 2008 - The African Center for Gender and Social Development (ACGS) in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa has developed the African Gender and Development Index (AGDI); a new tool intended to address the lack of adequate indicators for measuring gender inequality and progress made by Member States in implementing regional and international gender equality commitment such as the Dakar and the Beijing Platforms for Action. Ministers and experts endorsed the AGDI during the Seventh African Regional conference on Women held in Addis Ababa in October 2004.

05 February 2008 - The Economic Commission for Africa /African Center for Gender and Social Development (ACGSD) developed African Gender and Development Index (AGDI) within the framework of effective implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the international and regional platforms and plan of action on gender equality and women's advancement is designed as tool for African policy makers and their partners to monitor progress towards gender equality and women's advancement. The AGDI is piloted in 12 African countries and ACGSD is extending the AGDI to the remaining African countries.

25 January 2008 - A two day meeting organized by the Geneva based Femmes Africa Solidarite (FAS and the African Center for gender and Social Development of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the African Women Gender and Development Directorate of the African Union took place In Addis Ababa.
