The Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) launched the Third
Global Knowledge Conference (GK III) on "Emerging People,
Emerging Markets, Emerging Technologies”, on February
5th, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Global Knowledge Partnership
(GKP) is the world’s leading international multi-stakeholder
network committed to harnessing the potential of knowledge,
and information and communication technologies (ICT) for sustainable
and equitable development.
GKP brings together public sector agencies, private sector
companies, civil society organizations and international institutions
to Share Knowledge and Build Partnerships that promote innovation
and advancement in the areas of Knowledge for Development
(K4D) and Information and Communication Technologies for Development
(ICT4D). GKP constitutes a Regional Network for each of the
seven regions: Africa, Central & Eastern Europe, East
Asia, Latin America & the Caribbean, Middle East &
North Africa, Oceania and South Asia. ECA, through ISTD, acts
as the Secretariat for the African regional node.
GKP activities and programmes address development opportunities
and challenges within four strategic themes – Access
to Knowledge, Education, Poverty Reduction and Resource Mobilisation.
Through GKP, organizations across sectors share their experience,
ideas and solutions to unleash the potential of knowledge
and ICT to improve lives, reduce poverty and empower people.
Mrs Aida Opoku Mensah, ISTD OIC and member of the GKP Executive
Committee emphasized that GK III will be a unique gathering
of global visionaries, innovators, practitioners and policy
makers, all geared to sharing knowledge and building partnerships
in ICT for Development on a platform created by and for stakeholders
from every sector – private companies, governments,
international organizations and civil society groups".
The GK3 theme, “Emerging People, Emerging Markets, Emerging
Technologies”, is a dynamic focus on the interplay,
interface and interweaving of issues related to Knowledge
for Development (K4D) and Information and Communication Technologies
for Development (ICT4D) within the context of evolving societies,
economies and technologies worldwide. The Third Global Knowledge
Conference will be held from 11-13 December 2007 in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia.
