Forum on the Outcome of the African Decade Review of Beijing + 10

Tracking Gender Mainstreaming in Africa

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), through its African Center for Gender and Development (ACGD), is organizing a FORUM on the Outcome of the African Decade Review of Beijing + 10.

The FORUM will be held on Thursday 3 March 2005 at 3.00-5.30 pm, in Room 6 and will be open to the public.

Objectives of the FORUM

Objective 1: Present and discuss the major findings of the African Decade Review of Beijing + 10 included in the outcome document ACGD has prepared and titled: “ Questioning the Achievements and Confronting the Challenges Ten Years After Beijing”.

Objective 2: Introduce three practical Tools developed by ECA to monitor the status of African women and the impact of gender mainstreaming on this status.

:: The African Gender and Development Index (AGDI) that monitors the status of women in comparison to men in different sectors.

:: The Monitoring and Evaluation Tools for Institutional Mechanisms of Gender Mainstreaming that gauge the extent to which these mechanisms have been implemented in six key sectors.

:: Impact Evaluation Tools of Gender Mainstreaming on the Status of Women that include: two Guides on data collection and data analysis; tools for data collection; and a Questionnaire to conduct a household survey on impact indicators.
