| Areas of Focus Activities under this programme aim at promoting
reforms, policies and strategies for enhancing public sector management, stimulating
private sector development and strengthening the participation of civil society in
development.
Objectives
- analysis and prepares syntheses of
best practices, emerging trends and approaches to public sector management, private sector
development, and the participation of civil society in development.
Strategy
- partnerships with relevant
organizations;
- building networks, databanks;
- study tours;
- discussions and interactions to
exchange experiences and share information; and
- supporting capacity building
efforts, training, workshops and by providing technical and advisory services.
The Development Management
Division comprises the following three themes
1. Public sector Management
- areas of focus cover activities
concerned with civil service reform, decentralization, intergovernmental relations, the
changing role of government in economic development and capacity building.
2. Private Sector
Development
- addresses issues related to:
enterprise formation, privatization, micro financing and the development of capital
markets.
3.
Civil Society Participation in Development and Governance
- designed to enhance civil society
participation in development and governance. The areas of focus are: establishment of the
resource centre for institutional development and capacity building for African NGOs,
fostering dialogue between government and civil society, building capacity for civil
societys for conflict prevention and peace building, promoting democratic pluralism.
