Youth from Ethiopia, Senegal and Cape Verde to present results of their ICT based innovations

Addis Ababa, 22 May 2012 (ECA) - The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Technology Centre for ICTs (CTIC) are organizing a special event on 'Innovation in ICTs- the CREATIC4AFRICA initiative' on June 4 2012 at the United Nations Conference Centre to hear from the five winners of the CREATIC4AFRICA programme.
Five African fellows from Cape Verde, Ethiopia and Senegal were selected to develop an innovative ICT-based application that would respond to particular needs of their communities and remain commercially viable and sustainable.

African ingenuity celebrated at the 2012 Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) awards ceremony

Addis Ababa, 27 March 2012 (ECA) - Mr. Mohammed Sanad, professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, Egypt has won the inaugural Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) 2012. The announcement was made during a glittering gala dinner in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia attended by ministers of finance, central bank governors, government representatives, the media, the private sector and civil society actors. Professor Sanad won the $100,000 prize for developing a low-cost, lightweight, low wind-load, foldable/deployable, multi-broadband base station antenna; using dual parabolic cylindrical reflectors with novel small size broadband resonant feeds.

The First Innovation Prize for Africa to be awarded in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The prize will be presented for the first time on 26 March 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the sidelines of a Conference of African Finance Ministers will be meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia later this month to discuss the actions needed to turn Africa into a New Growth Pole for the global economy.

ECA to assist Tanzania on its ICT policy review
