OF MICRO FINANCE
INSTITUTIONS IN CENTRAL AFRICA:
MECANISMS
FOR IMPROVE NON-TRADING COMPANIES

Within the framework of its efforts aiming at promoting private
sector in Africa, the Economic Commission of United States for
Africa (ECA) organizes a series of workshops and seminars in order
to work out a guide on the codes and implementation of standards
for governance of companies in Africa. This activity forms an
integral part of a broader mandate of the Commission aiming at
promoting good governance with a view to stimulate economic growth,
reduce poverty and contribute to reach the Millennium Development
Goals (MDG).
The ECA played an important part in the promotion
of private sector in Africa, during these last years. Its efforts
bear already fruits: indeed African countries ardently work to
create an environement favorable to the investments by implementing
reforms which aims at macro economic stability, improvement of
the lawful framework in order to attract the investors, and
installation of infrastructures (energy, roads, ports, telecommunications,
etc.)
However much of efforts remain to be made, because
the private sector is developed still little and plays a relatively
limited role in the reduction of poverty. The present reflexion
constitute a prolongation of the efforts of ECA aiming at making
the private sector more dynamic, thanks to governance of companies.
