Agenda item 1: Opening of the meeting

The opening of the 20th meeting of the intergovernmental Committee of experts (ICE)will be held on Wednesday 13th April 2005 at 11:00h .

Agenda item 2: Election of the Bureau.

The outgoing President will invite the meeting to elect the new Bureau which will be composed a President, a Vice-president and a Reporteur.

Agenda item 3: Adoption of the agenda and organization of work.

The Committee will be invited to examine and adopt the meeting provisional agenda and work programme proposed by the Secretariat.

Agenda item 4: Report on the activities of the SRO-NA for the period from April 2004 to April 2005.

The Secretariat will present to the Committee a report on activities of the Office during this period.

Agenda item 5: Survey on the economic and social conditions in North Africa 2004.

The secretariat will present the report on the economic and social conditions in North Africa for year 2004. This report includes three parts. The first, analysis the economic situation in 2004, the second, draft of the evolution of the economic structures in North Africa, during the period 2000-2004, and the third, the economic participation of the women.

5.1 economic and social conditions

This part of the report describes the economic situation, analyzes the usual indicators as well as their recent evolution and highlighted the subregional indicators.

5.2 Evolution of the economic structures

This part of the report is a thematic study asked by the CIE. It describes the evolution of the North frican economic structures for period 2000-2004. It approaches the subject of the diversification, by distinguishing the direct and indirect effects. It gives besides examples of constraints and determiners to the evolution of the economic structures.

5.2 Economic participation of women

This part of the report discusses the economic participation of the women in North Africa. The recommendations of the CIE that must serve for defining a proposition of action plan.

Agenda item 6: Report on progress and prospects in the attainment of the MDGs in North Africa and the implementation of NEPAD

This report estimates the progress in the realization of the objectives of development of the millennium ( MDGs) and the application of the NEPAD. It discusses policies and socioeconomic reforms and aptness of the NEPAD as frame allowing the countries of the sub-region to accelerate the realization of the MDGs.

Agenda item 7: Presentation and discussion of the subregional report on water.

This report is a nexus of the national reports of seven countries of the sub-region. It is centred on the development and the development of water ressources in North Africa. it makes the inventory of fixtures and the evaluation of the progress realized by the countries of the subregion in the implementation of the African Vision of the Water for 2025.

Agenda item 8: Progress report on the status of information for development activities in North Africa

Agenda item 9: Programme of Work for the biennium 2006-2007

The secretariat will present the Programme of Work for the biennium 2006-2007

Agenda item 10: Date and venue of the coming meeting

The Committee will propose the date and venue of 21th meeting of the ICE.

Agenda item 11: Other matters.

The Committee will examine other questions raised by participants.

Agenda items 12: Adoption of the report

The Committee will discuss and adopt the draft report of the meeting and the recommendations.

Agenda item 13: Closure of the meeting

The President will declare the closure of the 20th meeting of the ICE.
