Environment

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Food Security and Sustainable Development Division, the Regional Adviser on Environmental Matters provides advisory services to ECA member States and their Intergovernmental Organizations in the following areas:

1. Matters related to environmental policies and programmes;
2. Measures dealing with general environmental matters;
3. Environmental impacts of economic and social activities;
4. Trans-boundary environmental problems affecting shared natural ressources;
5. Activities related to the implementation of the United Nations Conventions: e.g. on biodiversity; on climat change; to combat drought and desertificatio; and
6. In general, undertakes training activities including workshops and seminars on on environmental impacts assessment, on the management of the environment and the incoporation of environment concerns in the planning and implementation of development and economic growth activities.
