Minister calls on experts to help ensure the success of free trade in Southern Africa .
Lusaka , 02 June 2008 (ECA) - The Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of Zambia, the Hon. Jonas Shakafuswa Monday called on experts to devise action-oriented recommendations to ensure that the forthcoming free trade area for Southern Africa is a success.

Lusaka , 15 May (ECA) – The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Southern Africa Office (ECA-SA) is organizing a multi-stakeholder forum from 29 – 31 May in Lusaka , Zambia , to review progress towards achieving a Free Trade Area and Customs Union in the sub region.
 
  UNECA-SA will be hosting the 14th Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE) from 2nd – 4th June.
The theme of the meeting is “Achieving Free Trade Area (FTA) and Customs Union (CU): Emerging Challenges and Opportunities for Southern Africa”.

Heads of SADC Electoral Commissions discuss ways to improve electoral quality in the region

Addis Ababa, 22 November 2007 (ECA) – Heads of the Electoral Commissions of the SADC countries, representatives of the SADC Secretariat and the Pan African Parliament, and other stakeholders and experts will meet in Lusaka, Zambia from 28 –29 November to evaluate elections and the electoral systems, and to map a way forward in order to improve the quality of elections in the region.
