EAC/ATPC Expert Group Meeting

 

 

Theme or title of the event : EAC/ATPC Expert Group Meeting on the project "Empowering Border Communities through Modernisation of Shared Markets"

Objective/Importance of the meeting : The overall objective is to empower border communities in EAC Member States to take advantage of the opportunities created by the Common Market Protocol specifically in the attainment of Millennium Development Goals. The experts are meeting up to fine tune the details of the Project; identify the markets to be selected and required interventions ; and to create ownership and common understanding of the project amongst the different actors.

Where it will take place : Kigali, Rwanda

Dates : 21 June - 22 June 2011

Range and number of participants attending : At least 2 principal officers from EAC Member States that work within areas that relate to the effective implementation of the EAC Common Market Protocol.

Expected outcomes: The Experts are expected to:
(a) Formulate the Project on “Empowering Border Communities through Modernisation of shared Markets”.
(b) Agree on the implementation mechanisms and the budget of the Project; and
(c) Identify Local Shared Markets across the borders where the Project will be implemented.
