ATPC, has been assisted in its efforts to gender mainstream its policies and practices by the GEARI Project, funded by CIDA since 2007.

Janneh calls for Second Review of Aid for Trade to Ensure Commitments lead to Action.
Addis Ababa, 03 July 2009 (ECA) - United Nations Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, has said that ECA will continue to closely monitor the implementation of the Aid for Trade initiative in order to maximize the benefits accruing to African countries.

Gender and Trade Workshop calls for Greater Sensitivity among Policy Makers
Given the complicated linkages between trade policy and gender equality, there is urgent need for more research and greater gender sensitivity among policy makers. This was a key call made at the two-day Gender and Trade Workshop from 18 – 19 June at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Development Partners Commit over $US1 billion of Funding at North-South Corridor Conference
Africa's development partners have committed more than US $1 billion to upgrade road, rail and port infrastructure under the North-South Pilot Aid Project. The commitment came during the High-Level North-South Corridor Aid for Trade Conference held in Lusaka , Zambia from 6-7 April 2009.

First Edition of ATPC II News Launched
ATPC II has launched its new newsletter ATPC II News [Version française]. This edition of the newsletter is dedicated to ATPC II programming missions to the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariats, and proposals on an African template for the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) between African countries and the EU prepared by ATPC and discussed at a workshop in Addis Ababa from 8-10 October 2008. The newsletter also reports on a recent mission of a team from the Gender Equality and African Regional Institution Project (GEARI) to Addis Ababa, and ATPC studies and events on trade facilitation.

The Gender Equality and African Regional Institution Project (GEARI) Undertakes Second Mission to ATPC
A team from the Gender Equality and African Regional Institution Project (GEARI) visited the African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC) in Addis Ababa from 7-16 October 2008. The GEARI team, composed of Nancy Spence and Constance Kunaka, was received by Mr. Abdoulahi Mahamat, the Officer-in –Charge of the Trade, Finance and Economic Development Division (TFED) and also had several working sessions with ATPC staff members. |

ATPC II launched with Programming Missions to EAC and SADC Secretariats
As part of activities to launch the second phase of the African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC II), a programming mission was undertaken to the Secretariat of the East African Community (EAC) in Arusha, Tanzania from 8-9 September 2008. A similar mission was undertaken to the Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in Gaborone, Botswana from 25-26 September 2008. The purpose of the missions was to reach agreements on the modalities for setting up Trade Policy Units (TPUs) at EAC and SADC, and to prepare implementation plans for ATPC II funded activities.

Addis Ababa, 9 May 2008- The Trade, Finance and Economic Development Division (TFED) of ECA and African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC) organized a workshop on trade facilitation as well as a study tour to the Port of Djibouti and two border posts between Ethiopia and Djibouti on 5 and 6 May 2008.
