The
African Centre for Women (ACW)
The African Centre for Women (ACW) is a division within
the Economic Commission for Africa. Established in 1975, ACW is the regional
Women in Development (WID) structure in the United Nations system in Africa.
The Centre services national, regional and subregional structures involved
in the advancement of women. Within ECA's strategy, there is a new and
greater emphasis on gender issues as cross-cutting concerns in the priority
areas of focus which are:

Economic and Social Policy Analysis;

Development Management;

Food Security and Sustainable Development;

Information for Development;
-
Regional Cooperation and Integration
ACW envisages:

Equal access to opportunities

Equal participation in decision-making
Structure
ACW is the secretariat for the Committee on Women in Development
(CWD), formerly known as Africa Regional Coordinating Committee (ARCC)
for the integration of women in development, which is a subsidiary organ
of ECA.
