Agenda item 1: Opening of the meeting

Statement of the outgoing Chairperson and of the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa

Agenda item 2: Symposium

Presentations will be made by ECA and invited speakers covering:

• transport issues along West African corridors;
• transportation costs in Africa;
• infrastructure policy issues; and
• private sector participation in infrastructure (World Bank presentation and experiences of Asia as well as Best Practices by ESCAP)

Discussions will be held after each of the presentations

Agenda item 3: Consideration of the third and final evaluation of UNTACDA II report

The Ministers will consider the report of the Experts meeting scheduled for 2^nd and 3^rd March 2002 together with the successor arrangement for the UNTACDA II programme whose main objective is to ensure a sustainable development of the transport and communications infrastructure and services in Africa. The recommendations of the meeting will serve as an input to the activities of the African Union, the New Partnership for Africa's Development, and also for fostering the regional integration in Africa. In this regard, the Ministers will also participate in the event of the African Development Forum, which will take place from 3^rd to 8 March 2002 in Addis Ababa and during which a Plenary Session will be organized on the 5^th March to discuss the physical integration through infrastructure development. The UNCTADA II evaluation report will be presented by the Chairperson of the experts meeting held on 2^nd and 3^rd March 2002.

The Conference may wish to consider other matters in addition to those contained in the provisional agenda.

Agenda item 5: Adoption of the report and closure of the meeting

The report of the Conference will be adopted at the closing session.
