INFORMATION NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS

Fourth Meeting of the Follow-up Committee on the implementation of the DND and the ICPD-PA Yaounde, Cameroon 28-31 January 2002

Venue and Opening Ceremony

1. The Meeting will be held at the Palais des Congrès, Yaounde, Cameroon, from 28 to 31 January 2002.

2. The opening ceremony will take place in the Palais des Congrès on Monday, 28 January 2002 at 10:00 a.m.

Documentation

3. Documents will be distributed to participants during the meeting in both English and French versions. However, they are already accessible at the meeting's website at http://www.uneca.org/eca_resources/Major_ECA_Websites/icpd/fourth/index.htm

Interpretation

4. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided into French and English.

Visa requirements

5. Visa is required to enter the country and can be obtained from the Embassy or the Consulate of Cameroon in your country of residence.

6. However, for participants from countries without Cameroonian diplomatic missions, the Government of Cameroon has agreed to take the necessary actions for the issuance of visa at Douala or Yaounde airports upon their arrival. In this regard, the list of participants has already been communicated to the Cameroonian Government.

Health

7. All participants should have a certificate of vaccination (especially against yellow fever).

Transport service

8. Transport will be provided by the Organizing Committee to all participants from Yaounde airport to their hotel and from their hotel to the Meeting site.

Currency

9. Cameroon is part of CFA zone. The fixed rate between CFA Franc (CFAF) and European Euro/USD is:

1 Euro = 653 CFAF

1 USD = 730 CFAF.

10. Money exchange can easily be done in banks or in hotels.

Weather

11. The weather is quite hot and dry in January with temperatures ranging from 25 to 30 degrees centigrade.

Ticket and Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA)

12. ECA will take necessary arrangements to enable UNDP local Offices provide to participants sponsored by ECA with return ticket (by most direct way, economy class). Participants are advised to contact the UNDP local Offices in order to collect their ticket.

13. The daily subsistence allowance will be paid in Yaounde to participants sponsored by ECA at United Nations rate and according to UN regulations.

14. All expenses including hotel bills and meals will be met by participants themselves.

Hotels

15. The Organizing Committee made reservation for the participants at the Hotel des Députés where they will be accommodated. Arrangements are being negotiated by the Committee with the hotel in order to secure special rates for room.

Registration

16. Participants may register with the Secretariat of the Meeting. Registration will take place at the Palais des Congrès on 28 January 2002 from 8:30 am.

Confirmation of return flight

17. Participants are requested to deposit, upon arrival, their tickets at the Secretariat of the Meeting for confirmation of their return flights.
