AFRICA'S POPULATION AND DEVELOPMENT BULLETIN
BULLETIN D'AFRIQUE SUR LA POPULATION ET LE DÉVELOPPEMENT

The Food Security and Sustainable Development Division (FSSDD) of the ECA (with the financial support of the UNFPA) will launch this year Africa's Population and Development Bulletin/Bulletin d'Afrique sur la Population et le Développement. Its aim is to encourage the exchange and sharing among African countries their experiences in the implementation of the Dakar Ngor Declaration (DND) and the International Conference on Population and Development - Programme of Action (ICPD-PA). The information in the Bulletin will cover the thematic areas included in the ICPD-PA and will provide a platform to discuss research results, policy initiatives, policy outcomes, and activities at the grassroots level.

The Bulletin will be produced twice a year and will be disseminated (5000 ex.) to planners, policy makers, universities and researchers, NGO's, international organizations and the public at large. The first issue is scheduled for June-July 1999.

Among the articles and sections to be taken up in the first issue are:

  • A focus on the implementation of the DND/ICPD-PA programmes of action

  • Reports of recently held meetings, forums and conferences on population and development

  • A country/regional profile

  • Datasheet: a presentation of quantitative data towards monitoring population and development trends in Africa

  • In the field: focus on the activities of selected NGO's

  • Research notes: a summary of research results

  • Announcement of a selection of upcoming events and recently published materials.

Since Africa's Population and Development Bulletin is conceived to be a discussion platform, the FSSDD invites all interested parties to make contributions and to suggest other topics for articles on population and development at large. Especially, researchers and NGOs are invited to report on their activities and work. The FSSDD would also appreciate to be informed on recently held and upcoming events (meetings, forums, and scientific conferences) and recently published material on the subject matter. The editorial deadline for contributions for the second issue is set to be the end of October 1999.

Any further inquiries with respect to the content of the bulletin as well as information on the modalities for contributions can be communicated to the editorial board:
