Women's Human Rights Education in Africa

Ad-hoc expert group meeting in Ouagadougou to review Western Africa Sub-regional Outlook and Best Practices.

In the framework of implementing the United Nations New Agenda for Development in Africa/Special Initiative for Africa, ACW has undertaken to prepare a sub-regional outlook on women's human rights education practices in west Africa, in partnership with ECA's Sub-regional Development Centers Co-ordination Unit ( SRD-CU ), West African Sub-regional Development Center and the Pan African Institute for Development, West Africa.

This outlook and best practices are based on four case studies prepared by national experts from selected countries within the sub-region. The synthesis report will be reviewed and finalized by an ad-hoc expert group meeting due to be held form 18 to 20 December in Burkina Faso.

The two-day meeting will bring together education policy makers, development specialists, education experts and non-governmental and civil society participants to review successful designs for increasing the impact of women's human rights programmes..

The expected outcome of the meeting is to complete, consolidate and disseminate the findings of the synthesis report on "Women's rights education in Africa: Western Africa Sub-regional Outlook and Best Practices", and identify the adequate local and national strategies for capacity building activities in the field of human rights education with a special emphasis on women .
