ECA Press Release No. 10/2001

THIRD AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT FORUM MOVED TO FEBRUARY 2002

Addis Ababa, 26 October 2001 (ECA) -- The Third African Development Forum (ADF III), to have taken place at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) from 9 - 13 December 2001, has been postponed and will now be held from 24 - 28 February 2002.

The decision to move ADF III to February 2002 was taken in line with the postponement of a number of other major inter-governmental and international meetings and activities.

The new date will also strengthen the follow-up of the ADF process, particularly its linkage with the African Union agenda. The results of the Forum will be transmitted to the next meeting of the OAU Council of Ministers in March, which will consider proposals for the African Union and forward them to the Summit of Heads of State in Pretoria in July 2002.
