| External Review of Economic Report for Africa 2008 ECA Press Release No. 19/2007 Addis Ababa, 14 November 2007 (ECA) – The External Peer Review of the Economic Report on Africa for 2008 (ERA 2008) will take place in Addis Ababa on 18 November 2007. ERA is one of the Commission's annual flagship publications prepared by the Trade Finance and Economic Development Division (TFED) in collaboration with the African Union. The report falls into two parts. The first part of the report provides an overview of recent developments in the world economy and examines growth performance and social development in African economies in 2007 and in the recent past. As a transition to the main theme developed in the second part, the report examines emerging development challenges in Africa, including world trade negotiations, infrastructure bottlenecks, climate change and progress towards the MDGs. The second part of ERA 2008 will focus on the theme "Translating Development Financing Commitments into Action". The report assesses where we are in terms of meeting the commitments to Africa in the six core areas of the Monterrey Consensus: mobilizing domestic financial resources for development; mobilizing international resources for development; promoting international trade as an engine of development; increasing international financial and technical cooperation for development; external debt relief and sustainability; and addressing systemic issues. Twenty-two experts will participate in the review. They include experts drawn from leading African academic and research institutions; the African Union Commission; Ministries of Finance and Economic Development; international organizations; as well as ECA staff members based in Addis Ababa and the Commission's five Sub regional Offices.
