Mutual review report hailed as important contribution to governance ECA Press Release No. 15/2008
Paris, France, 12 March 2009 (ECA) – Council members of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) hailed the 2009 Mutual Review of Development Effectiveness (MDRE) as an important contribution to African governance, during a meeting in Paris last week. Council members called the report an “important contribution to mutual accountability and to international dialogue and understanding regarding Africa’s development.” They also noted that the recommendations and conclusions of the report will feed into international meetings including the G8 and G20 processes. The report, which was prepared jointly by the United Nations Economic Commission on Africa’ Governance and Public Administration Division (UNECA/ GPAD) and OECD in response to a request from the NEPAD Heads of State and Government, was launched at the 20th Summit of NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee. The report was presented in Paris by GPAD head Professor Okey Onyejekwe, who led the work carried out by the special joint report team, and Mr. David Batt, director of the Africa Partnership Forum Support Unit. OECD Secretrary-General Mr. Angel Gurria said that in a recent meeting with UN Under-Secretary General and ECA Executive Secretary Mr. Abdoulie Janneh he called the partnership between the organisations “extremely successful and should now be extended across the work of the two institutions.” For a summary of the Council discussion, please click here.
